The lion

Only the lion could afford to be fearless – they called him King of the Jungle because he feared no one – until the hunter came along with his gun. The rest of the animals, including the elephant, had to be instinctively fearful to survive. The lion, however, was not fearless – he was simply in control of his fear, so much so that he was able to dish it out at will. That was why he was considered to be the possessor of royal largesse. I was not at all convinced about the omnipotence of the lion. On a spiritual level I believed that the leopard was far superior. Luanshya musings
